Welcome to the Tarot - Lesson 2.

Introducing the Tarot Spread

There are many ways in which you can spread your tarot cards, to read them. You'll use different spreads for different types of readings.

The way you lay your cards out is known as a spread. A tarot spread is a template which helps you see how things progress on your given topic.

As you become more adept at reading the tarot cards, you may wish to create your own tarot spread; and it is entirely up to you how many tarot cards you wish to use in your spread.

Generally though, if you look at the standard types of tarot spreads, you'll see they tend to use between three and fifteen tarot cards. When you lay tarot cards out in a specific spread, you're able to see the progression from the beginning of your query through to conclusion.

You're also able to see if there are any conflicting tarot cards that weaken or strengthen the tarot card you're looking at.

Positioning of the cards is important. As you become more adept at using and reading your tarot cards, you'll find a tarot spread that you're comfortable with. You'll then find more in-depth meanings begin to come through in your tarot readings; and eventually you'll feel more confident in trying alternative tarot spreads.

For this particular course, we'll be looking at three particular tarot spreads. The first spread will be based on just one tarot card. The second spread will be a horoscope spread using 12 tarot cards and the third spread is the most widely known tarot spread: the Celtic Cross.
